One of the best sections of the book are the first two chapters: "Understanding Your Horse" and "Equine Mechanics". The authors show their love and compassion for the horse by their desire to learn to communicate with them and make them comfortable in their work. Other chapters, such as "Finding and Fitting the Right Harness" and "Choosing the Right Carriage" are exceptionally thorough, and don't just tell the reader what to consider, but why: Illustrations by Joan Muller emphasis the authors' points more effectively than photographs, and there are many of both.
